Diving the Reef

Updated: Nov 20, 2021

Diving in a new spot! Open ocean past the entrance! Atlantic!!

Got everything ready so as to get to there, throw the anchor and start exploring the reef.

After loading the dinghy a quick swim to put my neoprene jacket on.

Surf wetsuits have a cloth layer, rubber, cloth construction. A sandwich.

Free diving wetsuits are rubber on skin. They are considered semi dry. Easier to slide into them while in the water. Or warm shower. Hair conditioner / water solution when on land.

Leaving the boat ready to go makes things easier at the dive site.

Quick swim to inspect the sailboat anchor and she is dug in!

Small jacks and silvery fish around at anchorage.

Dinghy Mission!!

Slow approach to a shallow sand patch before the reef. Got to be careful with the coral heads.

Brief look around, anchor tho the water and we get in the water.

Saw several barracudas, lots of reef fish of healthy sizes. A two foot grooper, plenty of napper. One big one and a spotted tay.

Got surprised by a decent size sting ray that was burried under the sand. I guess the low viz and me staring at the snapper helped in me not spotting it.

Swam a bit more and i was more aware to see the next stingray.

While still at BouMou, earlier today, we saw a turtle swimming by.

Great feeling when nature thrives! The reefs in Kuna Yala - San Blas are thriving!

We had sustained current even though it was a calm day. Pleasant low clouds on a day that started grey and rainy and felt like summer by lunch.

Summer is coming!
